Meta is one of the towns of Sorrento coast
and the name comes from "miliarium", that is milestone.
On Roman roads, milestones indicated the distance (in miles)
from Rome. An important resource of Meta is the pontifical
basilica, Santa Maria del Lauro, built between IX and X century.
Meta is on a tuff rock of Sorrento coast and goes towards the
sea: tourists love the sandy beaches hidden among rocks and
the crystalline sea. The town started to develop in XVII century
and many interesting buildings and churches were built.
