The town of Massa Lubrense lies in the final
area of the Sorrento Coast and is positioned between the Gulf
of Salerno and the Gulf
of Naples. Its coast is made of small beaches, each protected
by indented rocks that create small bays, a real
paradise that forms the marine park of Punta Campanella.
Inside this reserve there is the famous Bay of Jeranto, a
natural jewel. The Bay of Jeranto is part of Amalfi
Coast and can be reached through a path that starts from
Nerano, a nice hamlet of Massa Lubrense; this path goes through
a wonderful Mediterranean bush. You will surely enjoy picturesque
and enchanting panoramas and the crystalline sea.
The area of Massa Lubrense is characterized by several
hamlets, linked by small and narrow roads which give a special
charm to this region. There you can admire ancient farms,
ancient olive trees, lemon trees, strong oaks and chestnut
trees. Walking through the territory of Massa Lubrense means
also discvering archaeological excavations, ruins of
ancient towers, etc. The ancient name was Massa Publica,
which was the changed in Massa Lubrense because of the presence
of a church dedicated to Madonna della Lobra.
In Marina della Lobra there is the
port, created in a natural bay. Opposite there is a small
isle called Vervece. Each 15th August the people celebrate
the Assumption day with a great feast and a procession
by boat.
Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi is one
of the most enchanting hamlets of this region, also thanks
to the Bay of Jeranto; the natural fiord of Crapolla
can be reached walking along a picturesque path, along which
there is a small chapel dedicated to Saint Peter and a tower
from where you will enjoy a wonderful panorama. Marina del
Cantone has a small stony beach: in this area many hotels and restaurants can
be found. Other hamlets are Recommone, Cala
di Mitigliano which offers a great view over the isle of Capri.
Marina di
Puolo, situated between Capo di Massa and Capo di Sorrento
was much loved by Ancient Romans who in this hamlet played
their games on the beach. They also built the temples there,
dedicated to Hercules and Neptune. Nowadays Puolo is
loved by tourists, too. |
